About the Tribhuvan University grading system

Tribhuvan University is the oldest and largest university in Nepal, and its 2024 grading scheme puts results on a 4.0 scale led by “A+” (4.0). TU's Institute of Engineering (IOE) programmes — including the well-known BCT (Computer) and BEX (Electronics) streams — along with BSc CSIT and BCA under the science and management faculties, all report SGPA and CGPA semester by semester.

A common point of confusion is that under TU's scale a plain “A” is worth 3.6, not 4.0 — so students moving from a percentage mindset often miscalculate. This calculator uses the TU 2024 grade points directly, which is especially handy for working out an individual semester (for example a TU BCT semester 3 result) without juggling the table by hand.

TU grade points

Letter GradeGrade PointRemarks
A+4.0Outstanding
A3.6Excellent
A-3.2Very Good
B+2.8Good
B2.4Above Average
B-2.0Average
C1.2Pass

Object Oriented Programming3A-3.29.6
Digital Logic3B+2.88.4
Electric Circuit Theory3B2.47.2
C++ Lab1A+4.04.0
Total1340.0

Total points (40.0) divided by total credit hours (13) gives an SGPA of 3.08 — note how a 4.0 lab grade cannot lift the average much when the heavy theory papers sit at A-/B+/B.
