Compare GPA with Friends
Compare your SGPA and CGPA with a friend or classmate, semester by semester and subject by subject. Load their exported CSV file and gpaNepal lines it up against your own results — privately, in your browser.
Quick answer
How do I compare my GPA with a friend?
Enter your own grades in the gpaNepal calculator, ask your friend to export theirs with the Export CSV button, and load that CSV file on this page. gpaNepal shows both CGPAs, total credits, a semester trend chart and every subject’s grade side by side. The comparison runs in your browser, so neither file is uploaded anywhere.

How to compare your GPA with a friend
- Enter your own grades. Open the semester-wise CGPA calculator, pick your university and faculty, and fill in your grades. Your semesters are saved in your browser and appear here automatically.
- Ask your friend to export a CSV. In the calculator, the Export CSV button downloads every semester and subject as a single file. Your friend sends you that file.
- Load it above. Choose the file and the page shows both CGPAs, total credits, a semester trend chart and a side-by-side table of every subject and grade.
What the comparison shows
The summary cards give each person's CGPA and total credit hours completed. Below them, every semester is listed with both SGPAs next to each other, and inside each semester the subjects are matched by name so you can see exactly where two results diverge — the same paper graded A for one student and B for the other.
That subject-level view is the useful part. Two students can finish a semester on the same SGPA by very different routes: one strong in the heavy theory papers, the other carried by labs and projects. Because SGPA is credit-weighted, a single grade in a 3-credit subject moves the result three times as much as the same grade in a 1-credit workshop. Seeing the subjects side by side makes that obvious in a way two final numbers never do.
CSV format
The file needs a header row and five columns, in this order:
| Semester | Semester Number | Subject Name | Credit Hours | Grade |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Semester 1 | 1 | Engineering Mathematics I | 3 | A- |
| Semester 1 | 1 | Engineering Physics | 4 | B+ |
Grades use the letters printed on your marksheet. Exporting from the calculator always produces this format, so you rarely need to build the file by hand.
Privacy
Comparing grades is personal, so nothing leaves your device. Your own semesters are read from your browser's storage, and your friend's CSV is parsed locally. There is no account, no upload and no record kept once you close the tab. See the privacy policy for details.
Calculate first, by university
Each university uses its own grade-point table, so start from the calculator for yours: Pokhara University (PU) CGPA calculator, Tribhuvan University (TU) CGPA calculator, Kathmandu University (KU) CGPA calculator or Purbanchal University (PBU) CGPA calculator. To see what your result means as a percentage, use the GPA to percentage converter.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to upload my own grades to compare?
No. Your own results are read from the semesters you have already entered in the gpaNepal calculator, which are stored in your browser. You only upload your friend’s CSV file.
Is my friend’s CSV file uploaded to a server?
No. The file is read by your browser and the comparison is calculated on your device. Nothing is sent to gpaNepal or stored after you leave the page.
Can I compare with a student from a different university?
You can load the file, but the comparison is only meaningful within one grading system. Grade points differ between universities — an A is 4.0 at Pokhara University but 3.6 at Tribhuvan University — so the friend’s grades are read on your university’s scale. Compare with classmates on the same programme for a like-for-like result.
Why is my CGPA different from the average of my SGPAs?
CGPA is weighted by credit hours. A semester with 20 credits counts for more than one with 15, so averaging the SGPAs only gives the right answer when every semester carries the same credits.
What format does the CSV need to be in?
Five columns in this order: Semester, Semester Number, Subject Name, Credit Hours, Grade — with a header row. The easiest way to get a correct file is the Export CSV button in the calculator.
