How Purbanchal University degrees are organised
Purbanchal University runs its bachelor's programs on a semester system, with a four-year degree spread across eight credit-weighted semesters. Each semester produces its own SGPA, and those combine — weighted by credit hours rather than simply averaged — into the CGPA that appears on your final transcript.
PBU serves a large network of affiliated colleges, particularly across eastern Nepal. As with any affiliating university, core subjects and credit hours are set centrally while elective offerings and project titles vary between colleges. The lists below give the standard structure; your college's routine is the final word on which electives you actually sit.
The PBU grading scale
Purbanchal University uses an A+ to F scale with A+ at the top on 4.0 grade points. Note the shared abbreviation problem: both Pokhara and Purbanchal are commonly written “PU” in conversation, and they use different grade-point scales. Students routinely calculate with the wrong one for exactly this reason. gpaNepal refers to Purbanchal as PBU throughout to keep the two apart.
Credit hours and why they decide your average
Every subject below carries a credit-hour value. Your SGPA is the sum of (grade point × credit hours) across the semester divided by the total credit hours — so heavier subjects genuinely count for more. It is worth checking your own credit distribution before a semester rather than after: knowing which two papers carry the most weight tells you where revision time is best spent.
Practical and project components appear as separate rows wherever the syllabus credits them separately. Include them in your calculation; the university includes them in yours.
Using these lists with the calculator
You do not have to type any of this in by hand. In the calculator, choose Purbanchal University and then your faculty, and gpaNepal generates every semester on this page with the right subjects and credit hours already filled in. All that is left is entering your grades. Subjects can still be renamed, added or removed afterwards, so an elective that differs from the template is a two-second fix rather than a reason to start over.
Grades are stored in your own browser, never on our servers, so you can keep a running record across your whole degree and export it to CSV or PDF whenever you want a backup. The PBU SGPA and CGPA calculator page explains the grading scale in more detail.
A word on accuracy
Curricula get revised. Subject codes change, credit weightings are adjusted, and faculties introduce new electives between batches. The lists here reflect the syllabus versions gpaNepal was built against, and they are a reference rather than an official publication — your college's own syllabus and your marksheet are always the authority. If you spot a subject or credit value that no longer matches yours, tell us at info@kibu.space and we will correct it.
Frequently asked questions
Is Purbanchal University the same as Pokhara University?
No — they are separate universities with different grade-point scales, and both are often abbreviated "PU" in conversation. Purbanchal (PBU) tops out at A+ worth 4.0; Pokhara's highest grade is a plain A at 4.0. Using the wrong one produces wrong numbers.
Do all PBU-affiliated colleges teach these exact subjects?
Core subjects and credit hours are set by the university and are consistent across affiliated colleges. Electives and project work vary by college and batch, so adjust those to match your own routine.
How is CGPA calculated across semesters at PBU?
It is a credit-weighted average, not a plain average of your SGPAs. Multiply each semester's SGPA by its total credits, add those up, and divide by the total credits across all semesters. The calculator does this automatically.
Can I export my PBU results?
Yes. Export to CSV for a backup you can re-import on any device, or to PDF for a printable semester-by-semester report. Your data stays in your browser either way.
