How a Pokhara University degree is structured

Pokhara University runs on a semester system: a four-year bachelor's degree is divided into eight semesters, each ending in its own set of examinations and its own SGPA. There is no single year-end result that wipes the slate clean — every semester you complete becomes a permanent component of your final CGPA, weighted by the credit hours it carried.

Each subject in the lists below carries a credit-hour value, and that number does more work than most students realise. A three-credit theory paper contributes three times as much to your semester average as a one-credit lab. Two students with identical letter grades in different subjects can finish a semester with different SGPAs purely because of how those credits are distributed. Reading the credit column is the single most useful thing you can do with the tables on this page.

Why PU's grading scale is different

Pokhara University uses a grade-point scale that tops out at a plain A worth 4.0, with intermediate steps at A− (3.7), B+ (3.3), B (3.0), B− (2.7), C+ (2.3), C (2.0), C− (1.7), D+ (1.3), D (1.0) and F (0.0). This matters because Tribhuvan, Kathmandu and Purbanchal all place A+ at the top instead, which pushes a plain A down to 3.6 on their scales.

The practical consequence: a generic online GPA calculator, or one built for a different university, will quietly produce the wrong number for a PU student. Every calculation on gpaNepal applies the scale for the university you selected, which is why choosing the right one at the start matters more than it looks.

Reading the semester tables

Each row gives a subject code, the subject name and its credit hours. Codes are useful when you are matching a template against your own syllabus or exam routine, since subject names are often shortened differently between colleges affiliated to the same university. Labs and project work appear as their own rows because they are graded and credited separately — forgetting to enter them is one of the most common reasons a hand-calculated SGPA disagrees with the official one.

Using these lists with the calculator

You do not have to type any of this in by hand. In the calculator, choose Pokhara University and then your faculty, and gpaNepal generates every semester on this page with the right subjects and credit hours already filled in. All that is left is entering your grades. Subjects can still be renamed, added or removed afterwards, so an elective that differs from the template is a two-second fix rather than a reason to start over.

Grades are stored in your own browser, never on our servers, so you can keep a running record across your whole degree and export it to CSV or PDF whenever you want a backup. The PU SGPA and CGPA calculator page explains the grading scale in more detail.

A word on accuracy

Curricula get revised. Subject codes change, credit weightings are adjusted, and faculties introduce new electives between batches. The lists here reflect the syllabus versions gpaNepal was built against, and they are a reference rather than an official publication — your college's own syllabus and your marksheet are always the authority. If you spot a subject or credit value that no longer matches yours, tell us at info@kibu.space and we will correct it.

Frequently asked questions

Do all PU-affiliated colleges follow exactly these subjects?

The core subjects and credit hours come from the university syllabus, so they are consistent across affiliated colleges. Electives and project titles vary, and colleges occasionally sequence optional subjects differently. Treat the list as the standard structure and adjust electives to match your own routine.

My semester has a subject that is not in the list. What do I do?

Add it manually in the calculator with its credit hours and grade. Templates are a starting point, not a fixed structure — added subjects are included in your SGPA and CGPA exactly like generated ones.

Does a lab count toward my SGPA at Pokhara University?

Yes. Labs and projects carry credit hours and are graded, so they contribute to the semester average in proportion to those credits. Leaving them out is a common cause of a mismatch between a self-calculated SGPA and the official result.

Is an A the highest grade at PU?

On the Pokhara University scale, a plain A is the top grade at 4.0 grade points. Unlike TU, KU and PBU, there is no A+ above it — which is exactly why using another university's scale produces wrong numbers for PU students.
